Millions

The Basics:

A young British lad finds millions of pounds of money. He thinks that the money came from God but it actually was stolen and then thrown off a train for someone to pick up. Throughout the movie a burglar was watching the boy waiting to steal the money.  The boy found out the money was stolen so he wanted to give it back but his family was getting greedy and wanted to spend it. The boy ends up burning the rest of the money because he sees how much it has hurt his family.

Good News:

It was a wonderful film to watch because it was funny, exciting and sad all at the same time!

The Bad News:

It got kind of annoying when the boy would see all the different saints and he knew each and every one of them. It felt like they were trying to make the movie longer.

Bottom Line:

It was a great film. I liked it a lot. I rated it a 4 out of 5.

Slum dog millionaire

The Basics:

A 6-year-old boy name Jamal lives on his own with his older brother in India. As little boys they went through a lot of harsh events in their life. Most of the time they were trying to save Latika, the love of  Jamal’s life, from the slums of India. One day they find her but the older brother wants her for himself and forces the little brother at gunpoint to leave. So Jamal left and didn’t see them until years later. Then, he goes on the show Indian version of “Who wants to be a millionaire” hoping that she would see him. At the end he wins the twenty million in prize money and more importantly the girl.

The Good News:

It was a great film with a terrific story to it. I especially liked when the boys were running threw the slums of India because it showed what it was really like there.

The bad News:

I’ll have to wait to see it again.

The Bottom Line:

A terrific film, it is definitely in my top 5 of all time. I rated it a 5 out of 5!

ROOT

Today was the celebration and commemoration of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s day of service.  We went to Marvin Gaye Park in one of the poorest neighborhoods in Washington D.C. As we went down the street I saw half burnt down houses with boarded-up windows. Across the street I saw an abandoned gas station and homeless people sleeping everywhere. So we helped the community clean up a neighborhood park. Marvin Gaye Park used to be called “Needle” park because people would do drugs there and leave their needles lying around. We mostly did some raking because all the leaves had fallen from the trees due to winter. After we helped out for about an hour we then left to the Mandarin Hotel and hung out with John Mellencamp’s sons Hud and Spek. Then, Harrison and I went with Richard to the Capitol to check out the inaugural set up. But otherwise the day was pretty chill.

OBAMA

Today was wonderful.  I woke up at about 6:30 to get ready for the “We Are One” concert where there were more than seven hundred thousand people at the Lincoln Memorial. It was backed up all the way to the Washington monument! We got there around 8:30 am and we stood in the freezing cold of 18 degrees for 5 hours sleeping, playing card games, and waiting. But the five-hour wait went by pretty fast because when you gather 750,000  people things can get pretty hectic. Everyone was so bored that when some random guy started climbing a tree everyone started chanting, “You can do it.” But the wait was totally worth it though and I would love to do it again any given day because the concert was amazing. It touched the people’s heart. The famous actors and musicians wanted to be a part of history and perform just for us and they weren’t even being paid. Also, the most important thing was that we were making history and we were there and we were the ones who made all this possible. WE THE PEOPLE were all as one on that day and everyone got along. Then as Obama came on stage to speak people were crying, people were chanting his name, and everyone was just so glad in different ways.  The day we have been waiting for had finally gotten here and that day is called CHANGE. You only need one word to describe this day …phenomenal!

P Diddy

Waking up at five-thirty half-awake getting ready for the big day that we have all been waiting for “the inauguration.” In the morning we didn’t end up leaving until seven o’clock. We first went to the Washington monument were we met up with john and the other guys. The amount of people was outragouse. It looked like a sea of people coming toward you and the huge wave wasn’t going to stop. The hard thing was thet we were going against the crowd. We were trying to get to the CBS station where we would be on top of the roof watching the inauguration. When Obama started to speak two million people went silent. You could hear the birds chirp and the people breath. After he placed his left hand on the bible and raised his right hand swearing to uphold the constitution and protect our country the whole crowd went crazy. After everything started to mellow out all of a sudden Jesse Jackson walked in. He was going upstairs to where the CBS room was located to do a live interview with them he came down the steps and we asked him for an interview. He was so kind to say “yes.” I asked him, “Does this mean we’ve reached the mountain top? Then as we left we stepped outside and there was trash up to our necks. It was unbelievable. Trashcans were filled to the brim. As we made our way back to the hotel we caught P Diddy on his way out.  He was in the back seat of his car so we started to wave and he waved back. He then rolled down the window right as they were leaving just to ask us if we wanted a picture. So he got all the way out of his car just to take a picture with us! I thought that was really cool for him to do that for us. So that was the highlight of my day.

They Killed Sister Dorothy

The Basics:

Sister Dorothy travels from Ohio to Brazil in 1967 to help poor people save their lands. When she started getting deeper into the small community, she started to make a group that would hopefully stop the illegal loggers from cutting down trees in the rain forest. Everything was going well until the loggers got mad because they said that they owned they land, but no one owned it. So they killed sister Dorothy to stop her and the group. None of them were convicted in court even though they confessed to the horrible crime.

The Good News:

Overall, the movie was pretty weird.

Bad News:

I didn’t like the images showing her dead lying on the floor with blood running down her neck. I thought it was too violent. They also should have done more of the movie in the courtroom because it was much easier to watch.

Bottom Line:

The film wasn’t so great. It was also very boring. I rated it a 2 out of 5.

Bono

Today was amazing. We woke up at about eight o clock and went to starbucks to get some Internet and put up are blogs. Then we really got started we went to the Lincoln memorial were they were hosting the we are one in inaugural ball. It was a great experience to see the Lincoln memorial first hand rather than on TV. It was cold. It felt about 8 degrees but it was 21 degrees. First we interviewed the random people at the Lincoln memorial. I talk to all kinds of different people and ask them to give me there best yes we can. After we did that we went and met up with merandahs grandfather also the technical director for the whole show. Then we just stayed in this big mobile van that had ligit flat screens every were. It was the locations were they controlled all the cameras. So today was a pretty great day

The Wrestler

The Basics:

Gnarly is all you need to describe the movie. It was a tremendous film about a man who is still trying figure out his life. His name is Ram Jam or randy. He was a famous hardcore wrestler who would do anything for the fans. One day he had a heart attack after a match and the doctors tell him he is done with wrestling but that was all he had left because he did not have a family or a wife. So he goes out with a bang and jumps off the ring to win.

Good News:

Mickey Rourke was a great actor in this film. The Movie made you fill like you were actually there watching the match.

Bad News:

Very inappropriate for kids. I think that the movie should have been a little longer. Also the reconnection with his daughter should have taken a little longer.

Bottom Line:

Great film. I rated it a 4 out of 5.

THE WITTNESS

Who’s in it?

Reverend Samuel Billy Kyles

The basics:

The witness was a very heart touching detailed story of the last hour of martin Luther Kings life told from the very man who was standing next to him on the balcony, Reverend Samuel Billy Kyles. Reverend Samuel is the only man alive out of the three men that were in the room with MLK before his death.

The Good News:

I think the movie was great because it was a documentary about one of the greatest men who pushed for change in the world. Also It was sad But sad in a good way to see and remember what this man did for his people and he new that his life was coming to a end Because during his last speech he said “ I’ve seen the mountain top and so will you but we might not get there together”.

The Bad News:

There was really no bad news except that maybe the film could have been a little longer because it was such a great story.

The Bottom Line:

It was a wonderful movie. I rated it a 5. It has been the best movie I have seen so far.
